Frequently Asked Questions

Which database engines does Darwa manage?

Darwa runs managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, document databases, and Redis. You choose the engine, the version, and the region, and Darwa configures the instance, credentials, TLS, connection pooling, and the first backup schedule.

How do backups and point-in-time recovery work?

Every instance takes daily snapshots and supports point-in-time recovery to any second inside its retention window. A recovery creates a separate database by default, so you can verify the restore before repointing production at it.

Can I connect a database to a Darwa web service privately?

Yes. Place the database in the same region as the service that reads it and connect over the private network. The instance is reachable only from your services in that region rather than from the public internet.

Does Darwa handle connection pooling?

Yes. PgBouncer-style pooling sits in front of PostgreSQL and MySQL so a scaled-out worker pool cannot exhaust the available connections.

What happens during a failover?

Failover is automatic and the connection string does not change. Your services keep the same host name and the pooler routes traffic to the new primary.

Can I scale a database without recreating it?

Yes. Vertical scaling applies on a rolling restart, and read replicas are available where the engine supports them — PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB. Point reporting and search at a replica and keep writes on the primary.

Should I use Managed Databases or Cloud Storage?

Choose Managed Databases for structured records, transactions, relations, and low-latency key-value workloads. Choose Cloud Storage for files, media, backups, and object-style access.

Is there a free database, and does it expire?

The free instance has no expiry date, keeps its backups, and includes the same explorer, query editor, and assistant as a production instance.

Is Darwa a Postgres as a service platform?

Yes. Darwa provides managed Postgres hosting as part of its managed database service, alongside managed MySQL hosting and managed Redis hosting. It handles provisioning, credentials, TLS, pooling, monitoring, scaling, backups, and private application connectivity.

Does the free Postgres database include automated backups?

Yes. The free Postgres database has no expiry and keeps backups. Database backups are automated on every active tier, while production plans add the capacity and recovery window needed for larger workloads.

Is this cheap managed Postgres?

Darwa publishes the complete regional price before creation and includes the database client, pooling, monitoring, and backups. Whether it is cheap managed Postgres for your application depends on the required memory, storage, transfer, recovery window, and region, so compare the complete workload cost rather than only the entry price.

Does Darwa provide vector database hosting?

Darwa does not currently market a separate managed vector database. Dify and AnythingLLM deployments can run their supported vector stores, and PostgreSQL is available for relational application data, but this page does not claim a dedicated managed vector database product.
